The information on this page is for the minimum requirements for general acceptance by the transfer school. Always confirm requirements on the transfer school website and with a transfer school representative. Advisors can assist you!
Plan to apply well before a school’s application deadline to receive the fullest consideration for financial aid and scholarships.
- Specific majors may have different admission steps as well as academic and scholarship requirements and deadlines.
- Information presented pertains to domestic students. International students are advised to contact the transfer school’s Designated School Official and website for specific requirements.
- Students with an undocumented status are encouraged to contact the transfer school’s admission office and view the College Advising Guide for Undocumented Students.

Transfer GPA: 2.0 recommended if less than 24 transfer credits are earned
Minimum college credits to apply as transfer student: Apply as a transfer student if you’ve completed high school, home school, or a GED program and have earned (or will earn) college credit at a college or university before your first day at Columbia. This excludes dual enrollments (including Summer at Columbia) and/or any college or university enrollment completed during the summer immediately following high school or GED completion
Application deadlines: The 2024 application is scheduled to open on Sept. 5. Applications are accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis so it is to your advantage to complete your application as early as possible.

A minimum 2.4 GPA may be admitted to the university as undeclared if program prerequisites were not met or space in the major is unavailable. Students with 75 or more semester hours completed will not be admitted as undeclared.

After priority: Admitted as space permits on a rolling basis. Transfer applications are considered incomplete until all necessary documents, including transcripts, have been received. Incomplete applications will not be processed.

The college seeks to develop a comprehensive understanding of each applicant’s abilities and potential, rather than make decisions on the basis of single test scores or other isolated credentials. Scholastic record, rigor of curriculum, standardized test scores (if applicable), recommendations, writing samples and personal qualities – such as motivation, goals, maturity and character – are all considered. Students who have already graduated from high school and have earned college credit after their high school graduation should apply as transfer students.

Transfer GPA: In general, minimum 3.0. Students should strive for the “Admitted GPA” by major of 2.25-4.0 as shown in the Transfer Handbook. Also see Transfer GPA Guidelines of previously admitted transfer students to help assess your chance for admission. Final standards will depend on the number and qualifications of applicants to each program.
Minimum college credits to apply as transfer student. No minimum, though consult the Transfer Handbook for courses required prior to transfer. All transfer applicants must submit a high school transcript or GED certificate to confirm graduation; high school performance is only considered if you have fewer than 30 graded and transferable college credits.
Application deadlines: Submitting the application and all supporting materials as soon as possible may provide an advantage for programs with space limitations and many qualified applicants especially in Engineering, Business, Economics and Psychology.

- Spring 2024 – Sept. 15 - Oct. 15
- Fall 2024 – Jan. 15 - April 5 (priority: by March 1, including all supporting materials). Application available in December.

Iowa transfer
Transfer GPA: 2.0 if associate degree completed. 2.25 if 24 semester credits completed.
Minimum college credits to apply as transfer student: 24 semester credits of transferable coursework, not including career technical, development/remedial or military credits.
Application deadlines: Apply up to one (1) year in advance of entry. Recommended to apply at least six (6) months prior to the desired entry term.

- Bachelor of Science in General Science – 2.25
- Doctor of Chiropractic – 2.75 if a bachelor's degree was completed. 3.0 if non-degreed. If GPA is less than 2.75, ask about the Alternative Admissions Track Plan.

- Bachelor of Science in General Science – 45 including 24 credits in life and physical sciences with half of the courses having a lab.
- Doctor of Chiropractic – If non-degreed, 90 credits including 30 at upper division (the 30 may be completed with Palmer or another institution).

- Bachelor of Science in General Science – Apply at least six (6) months prior to the start of the term. All application forms must be on file at least four (4) weeks prior to the start of the term.
